Womens Tennis Tour Defends Outdoor Hard Court
CANCUN, Mexico (AP) - The semifinal match between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek at the WTA Finals in Cancun was suspended due to rain on Saturday.
The match was halted with Sabalenka leading 5-4 in the first set. It will resume on Sunday.
The rain has been a persistent problem at the tournament, which is being held outdoors on a hard court.
Earlier in the day, the doubles semifinal between Gabriela Dabrowski and Giuliana Olmos and Vera Zvonareva and Laura Siegemund was also suspended due to rain.
The WTA Finals is the season-ending tournament for the top eight singles players and eight doubles teams in the world.
Swiatek is the top seed in the tournament, while Sabalenka is the second seed.
