AI Tool Helps Cardiologists Diagnose Heart Attacks

Research led by Scripps Research scientists showed that cardiologists can diagnose heart attacks using a simpler, easier, and more accurate method with help from an AI tool.

Using this tool, cardiologists were able to correctly identify signs of heart attacks in 81.4% of the AI-generated ECGs, closely approaching the 84.6% accuracy rate of cardiologists who analyzed the original ECGs.

The application of AI to ECGs, a ubiquitous and standardized test, is an example of the ongoing advancement of AI in healthcare. This new AI-assisted method has the potential to improve the diagnosis and treatment of heart attacks, a leading cause of death worldwide.
