College Roundup: Chadron State College rallies past Jamestown for first win of season

Chadron State College Eagles soar to victory

Chadron State College Eagles secured their first win of the season, defeating the Jamestown Jimmies 24-13 on Saturday. The Eagles overcame a 13-0 deficit in the second half to claim victory. Quarterback Jayden Johannsen was instrumental in the comeback, leading the team with 169 passing yards and two touchdowns. Running back Josh Hough also contributed significantly, rushing for 126 yards and a touchdown.

A tale of two halves

The first half belonged to the Jimmies, who capitalized on two Chadron State turnovers to take a 13-0 lead. The Eagles defense held Jamestown scoreless in the second half, while the offense found its rhythm. Johannsen connected with wide receiver Isaiah Alcala for a 35-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 13-7. Hough's 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter gave Chadron State its first lead of the game, 14-13. Johannsen sealed the victory with a 15-yard touchdown pass to tight end John Thomas with just over two minutes remaining.

Defense shines in the second half

The Eagles defense played a pivotal role in the comeback, forcing three turnovers and holding Jamestown to just 68 yards of offense in the second half. Linebacker Caleb Johnson led the defense with nine tackles, while defensive back Isaiah Hankins intercepted a pass in the end zone late in the game to seal the victory.

Moving forward

The win is a major confidence boost for the Eagles, who have struggled in recent seasons. Head coach Jay Long was pleased with his team's resilience and determination. "We showed a lot of character today," Long said. "We never gave up, and we found a way to win." The Eagles will look to build on this momentum when they host Black Hills State University next Saturday.
